Harvard Fellowships

T.A. Barron Fellowships for Summer Work in Public Interest Environmental Law

Applications due Mar. 27, 2026

Five fellowships of up to $9,500 each to Harvard Law School students working in the public interest environmental law field during the summer of 2026. Applicants should be students who are returning to HLS in the fall of 2026. Experience with environmental law is not a requirement for the fellowship, and those new to the field are encouraged to apply. Applicants should first secure their summer position and then apply for the fellowship and complete the SPIF application along with the Employer Response Form.

2026-2027 Clinical Fellow, Emmett Environmental Law & Policy Clinic

The Clinical Fellow works with the Clinic Director and Clinical Instructor on a broad array of environmental, energy, and natural resource cases and projects and assist with the supervision of clinic students. The Fellow’s work will involve a mix of litigation, administrative advocacy, policy work, legislative drafting, and client advising. Required qualifications: J.D. earned within the past three years. Expected start date: July/August 2026.

Salata Institute Visiting Scholars Program

Applications are accepted throughout the year on a rolling basis.

The Salata Institute Visiting Scholar Program accepts exceptional academics working on climate change and sustainability for the purpose of supporting their scholarship or professional development. Visiting Scholars, in turn, enrich Harvard University’s community of scholars and scientists who are working on these issues. The program accepts applications on a rolling basis from academics, who are normally on sabbatical from their home institutions. These are residential, non-stipendiary appointments. All Visiting Scholars must be sponsored by a Salata Institute Faculty Affiliate. The Salata Institute hosts Visiting Scholars for one or two consecutive terms per academic year and provides office space and administrative support.

EELP 2026-2027 Fellowship

The Environmental & Energy Law Program (EELP) fellowship is a full-time, in-person position in Cambridge, Mass. The Fellow provides legal research and analysis on a range of current issues in environmental and energy law. The Fellow may also have the opportunity to develop new projects, both independently and collaboratively with EELP colleagues, to provide rigorous legal analysis to advance deep decarbonization and protect public health and welfare. The application process for the 2027-2028 academic year begins in the fall.

NRDC Fellowship for HLS Students or Recent Graduates

The application process for fall 2025 is closed.

The Beagle/HLS Fellowship at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a position with NRDC’s Litigation Team open to Harvard Law School (HLS) students and recent alumni. The Fellow will join NRDC’s Litigation Team, a group of approximately 40 lawyers, paralegals, and operations staff. The Beagle/HLS Fellowship is open to graduating Harvard Law School students or recent alumni who graduated in 2023 or later. Applicants must be available to start work in fall 2026.
